The Grand Rapids Christian Eagles's season come to an end in the district championship, falling to South Christian 73-50. While the outcome wasn’t what we hoped for, this team battled until the very end.
The Eagles started strong, playing with energy and confidence in the 1st quarter. Both teams traded baskets in a fast-paced, competitive battle, with the Eagles edging out a 17-15 lead after one. The intensity carried over into the 2nd quarter, as both teams made key plays on both ends of the floor. The Sailors managed to outscore the Eagles, taking a 31-30 lead into halftime.
The 3rd quarter proved to be the turning point. South Christian found their rhythm offensively, hitting four key three-pointers and using that momentum to go on a 23-9 run in the quarter. The Eagles fought to keep pace, but the Sailors capitalized on critical possessions to stretch their lead to 54-39 heading into the final quarter. Despite the deficit, the Eagles continued to fight in the fourth quarter, but the margin proved too big to overcome. South Christian executed down the stretch to close out the game and secure the 73-50 victory.
The Eagles were led by senior Tyler Davis with 16 points, followed by Carl Thompson with 14 points, and Connor Johnson adding 8 points.
