Eagles Soar Past Chix in Rain-Delayed Matchup, 16–8
Despite a rain delay, the Grand Rapids Christian Eagles took the field Friday night with energy and determination, securing a 16–8 victory over the Zeeland East Chix in a dynamic and well-fought contest.
The Eagles came out strong in the first quarter, with Hannah Kits wasting no time putting on a show, notching a hat trick to ignite the offense. Piper Slagboom and Grace Kelder added one goal each to give the Eagles an early edge and showcase their offensive efficiency.
In the second quarter, the Eagles continued to build momentum. Slagboom added two more to complete her hat trick, while Chloe Pegman and Maddox Veldkamp each found the back of the net. Kits and Kelder both tallied another goal, giving Kelder her second of the night and helping the Eagles maintain a solid lead heading into halftime.
The third quarter saw a slight dip in offensive production, but the Eagles still managed to tack on two more goals, one each from Kits and Kelder.
The final quarter was marked by strong defensive play. The Eagles limited the Chix to just two more goals while forcing 10 turnovers—crucial stops that led to valuable possessions and helped seal the win. Maddox Veldkamp played a key role on the draw, leading the team in draw controls and consistently battling for possession.
Assists were spread among Nadia Bolkema, Maddox Veldkamp, and Esther Kissinger, each contributing one to the team’s scoring efforts.
Overall, it was a complete team effort on both sides of the ball, and the Eagles left the field with a fun, focused, and hard-earned victory.
Grand Rapids Christian now plans to play the Holland West Ottawa Panthers on Monday night, with the opening draw set for 7 p.m.
