The Grand Rapids Christian Eagles earned their second straight victory Monday night, defeating the West Ottawa Panthers in commanding fashion, 18–10.
The Eagles came out strong in the opening quarter with early goals from Lila Jabara, Hannah Kits, and Grace Kelder. They slowed slightly in the second, adding just two goals — one from Nadia Bolkema and another from Kelder, who was just getting started. The score was knotted at 5–5 at halftime, setting the stage for a pivotal second half.
Refocused and reenergized, the Eagles turned up the heat on both ends of the field. Defensively, Ashley Overway and Grace Kelder led a fierce effort in causing turnovers and disrupting Panther possessions. Offensively, the Eagles found their rhythm. Maddox Veldkamp exploded with a hat trick in the third quarter, while Kelder continued her dominant night with two more goals.
Grand Rapids Christian sealed the deal in the final quarter with a relentless offensive push. Veldkamp added two more to complete a five-goal performance, Hannah Kits netted three, and Kelder tacked on her fifth of the night. Esther Kissinger and Piper Slagboom each added a goal to round out the scoring.
The Eagles outscored the Panthers 13–5 in the second half, showcasing their depth, teamwork, and grit.
Grand Rapids Christian looks to carry their momentum into Wednesday night’s matchup against Caledonia. Faceoff is set for 6 p.m.
