Friday night was a special one at Grand Rapids Christian, as the Eagles celebrated their Senior Night with a commanding win over DeWitt High School. The evening was dedicated to honoring the contributions of seniors Cassidy Buck, Sadie DeYoung, Grace Kelder, and Rachel Waters, who have exemplified leadership, determination, and heart throughout the season. With their efforts, the Eagles now hold a 6-8 record and look to finish the season strong. As their time in the program nears its end, the legacy they leave behind will continue to shape the team for seasons to come. We wish them all the best as they embark on their collegiate journeys.

The game started with a burst of momentum from the Eagles, as Piper Slagboom and Maddox Veldkamp opened the scoring, setting the tone early. The defense, anchored by goalie Glory Afolabi, was impenetrable in the first quarter, holding DeWitt scoreless and giving the Eagles a strong advantage.

In the second quarter, scoring slowed, but the Eagles still found the net. Nadia Bolkema added a goal, while defender Katelyn Raak capitalized on a fast break opportunity to contribute offensively.

The third quarter saw the Eagles turn up the pressure once again. Slagboom added another goal, Veldkamp tallied two more, and senior Grace Kelder delivered two powerful finishes in her final home regular-season game, fueling the team’s momentum.

The Eagles closed out the fourth quarter in dominant fashion. Slagboom found the net twice more to complete her hat trick, and Chloe Pegman added a goal of her own. Assists came from Slagboom, Veldkamp, and Hannah Kits, showcasing a strong team effort and unselfish play.

The midfield was key in the Eagles' success, controlling an impressive 17 draw controls, allowing consistent possession and transition opportunities throughout the game.

Grand Rapids Christian now turns their attention to Tuesday night, when they host Mattawan High School. With the season winding down, the Eagles look to continue building on their momentum and finish strong.
