Close meet turns into Great win for the Eagles
GRCHS 106 - Hamilton 79
It was senior night for the Eagles, and they came ready to win. The Hamilton Hawkeyes came in as slight favorites, ranked number 5 in D3, while the Eagles came in at number 6. Hamilton started the meet off strong with 1st place finishes in both the 200 medley relay and the 200 Free, but it was all downhill for the Hawkeyes after that.
The Eagles took first and second in the 200 Individual Medley, with a State qualifying time from Evan Nelson, and a strong finish from Sawyer O’Grady with a time of 2:14:98. Then the Eagles took 1st and 2nd in the 50 Free, with a big swim from Emmett Vance with a time of 22:55 and a new State Cut from Tyler Stinton with a time of 22:63. Isaac Witte and Owen Hoekstra took solid 3rd and 5th places against Hamilton’s strong diving team.
After diving, the Eagles were able to take 1st, 2nd and 5th in the 100 Free with Tyler Stinton getting another new State Cut with a time of 50:63. In the 100 Fly both Max Dekker and Alex Nelson got new State Cuts with times of 55:78 and 57:58, and took 2nd and 3rd. Then, in the 500 Free, Evan Nelson and Owen Jen went 1st and 2nd for the third time this season.
The dual meet was ended by solid swims in the Backstroke and Breaststroke, as well as 1st and 3rd place finishes in both the 200 Free Relay and the 400 Free Relay. The Eagles finished the meet winning 106 to 79. A meet that was supposed to end near a tie ended in utter domination for the Eagles. The team hopes to continue their momentum against Holland Public next week. Great job Eagles!
