The Grand Rapids Christian boys volleyball team competed in Cornerstone University's annual “Battle in the Mitten” tournament on Saturday. Despite being down a couple of players, the Eagles went 5-1-1 for the day, culminating with a victory in the bronze bracket final against the Pumas of Potter's House High School. Grand Rapids Christian played well in a highly competitive pool consisting of Northpointe Christian HS, Club HEA Firebirds, Gull Lake HS, and Saline HS, compiling a set record of 5-3; 2-0 vs. Northpointe, 1-1 vs. HEA, 2-0 vs. Gull Lake, and 0-2 vs. Saline - the 3rd-ranked Division 1 team in the state. Despite the strong performance, the Eagles were left in the bronze bracket due to a complex tie-breaking procedure. Grand Rapids Christian shook off that disappointment quickly and decisively, showing their strength in quickly dispatching East Kentwood HS, Greenville HS, and Potter's House in bracket play without dropping a set. The Eagles jump back into conference play on Monday night at Caledonia High School.
