The GRC Girls’ Varsity Tennis Team traveled to Mattawan this weekend for a challenging day of competition, facing off against three strong programs: Bloomfield Hills Marian, Farmington Hills Mercy, and Mattawan. Each flight competed against all three schools in a demanding series of matches that tested both skill and endurance.
The day began with a hard-fought matchup against Marian, where the Eagles fell 3-5. Our doubles teams showed exceptional grit, with both 3rd and 4th doubles pushing their matches into third-set tiebreakers. A special commendation goes to Anwen, who displayed remarkable mental toughness, staying composed and focused to secure a win despite distractions beyond her court.
In the second match, the Eagles took on Farmington Hills Mercy. It was a mentally and physically taxing contest across all lines, but senior Kaitlyn rose to the challenge, securing our lone win after a grueling third-set battle.
The final match of the day saw GRC take on host school Mattawan. Despite the fatigue from an already long day, the Eagles rallied and earned their first team victory, clinching a 5-3 win. The team’s determination and perseverance paid off in a big way. A standout performance came once again from senior Kaitlyn, who was the only Eagle to remain undefeated throughout the entire day.
Overall, it was an impressive showing from the team—demonstrating resilience, heart, and competitive spirit as they head into their final regular season match.
