Our GRC Girl’s Varsity Tennis Team competed in the OK White Conference Tournament on Thursday and Friday. With the regular season and tournament performance, GRC finished in 4th place behind EGR, Forest Hills Northern, and Forest Hills Central

1 Singles – Henley Honholt – 2nd Place
Freshman Henley Honholt delivered an outstanding performance, making a memorable run to the finals with impressive victories over East Grand Rapids and Forest Hills Central. On Day 1, she closed out her match as the sun dipped below the horizon, serving with poise under pressure. In the championship match, Henley battled fiercely, making her opponent earn every point in a hard-fought contest. Her performance was a remarkable display of grit and emerging talent.
2 Singles – Avah Jerke – 3rd Place
Team captain Avah Jerke faced a tough semifinal loss to East Grand Rapids but responded with tenacity and focus. Channeling that energy into her next match, she powered through Forest Hills Northern to secure 3rd place. Her leadership and resilience were evident throughout the tournament.
3 Singles – Kaitlyn Schmitt – 2nd Place
Kaitlyn Schmitt powered through her early rounds with dominant wins over Forest Hills Eastern and Catholic Central. Her determined play earned her a well-deserved spot in the finals against Forest Hills Central, where she continued to demonstrate sharp skill and composure finishing in 2nd place.
4 Singles – Anwen Amash – 2nd Place
Anwen Amash showed incredible stamina and determination during a grueling semifinal match that spanned two days due to fading daylight. With a set lead, she returned the next day to secure her finals spot with a third-set tiebreaker win. In one of the longest matches of the tournament—over three hours—she fought valiantly, ultimately finishing as a deserving runner-up.
1 Doubles – Anneka VerMeulen / Gwyn Artz – 3rd Place
Anneka and Gwyn advanced to the semifinals with a commanding win over Catholic Central. Despite a tough battle against top-seeded East Grand Rapids, they bounced back with a focused and confident performance to defeat Forest Hills Central and claim 3rd place.
2 Doubles – Anna Jacobsen / Emily Vandenberge – 5th Place
Captains Anna and Emily endured a tough first-round loss in a close third-set tiebreaker against Forest Hills Eastern. Undeterred, they regrouped and set their sights on winning the back draw. They achieved that goal with a satisfying win over Catholic Central, avenging a regular-season loss and demonstrating strong leadership and perseverance.
3 Doubles – Johanna Bos / Londyn Jerke – 6th Place
Johanna and Londyn had a challenging start with an early loss to Catholic Central but showed great resilience by rebounding with a win over Ottawa Hills. They advanced to the back draw final, where they fell just short against Eastern. Their determination sets the stage for a strong showing at Regionals.
4 Doubles – Charline Dahu / Charlotte VerMeulen – 4th Place
Charline and Charlotte showcased impressive teamwork and tenacity with a thrilling comeback win in their opening match against Forest Hills Eastern—taking the second set 6-0 and edging out a 13-11 third set. Though they couldn’t overcome Forest Hills Northern or East Grand Rapids in later rounds, their spirited play earned them a strong 4th-place finish.
5 Doubles – Adelyn Breuninger / Cameron Kok – 1st Place
Champions of the 5 Doubles draw, Adelyn and Cameron battled through a full bracket of competition. In a poetic turn, they claimed victory over Forest Hills Northern in the finals—a team they had lost to during the regular season. Notably, they played the most matches in a single day, showcasing exceptional endurance and heart.
6 Doubles – Megan Vandenberg / Olivia Christians
Megan and Olivia competed in a 6 Doubles round-robin, completing four matches over two days and finishing with a solid 2-2 record—including one against a 5D team. Their strong communication and self-sufficiency on court were a true asset to the team.
The Eagles hope to qualify for States at the Regional Tournament Thursday 5/15 in Portland. The Eagles go into the tournament with every flight seeded.
