The GRC Girls Varsity Tennis Team are officially headed to the MHSAA State Championships after a stellar performance at Regionals on May 15, 2025! The team tied for 2nd place with 22 points, securing one of the four coveted qualifying spots from one of the most competitive regions in the state.

Individual Results

1 Singles – Henley Honholt – Regional Champion
Henley entered Regionals with quiet determination and delivered a powerful performance. She cruised through her opening match and then faced a tough opponent from East Grand Rapids in the semifinals. After that win, she squared off against Forest Hills Eastern in the finals—a player who had bested her earlier in the season. With unwavering focus and mental toughness, Henley battled through a challenging first set and never looked back, earning the championship title with poise and perseverance.

2 Singles – Avah Jerke – Semifinalist
Avah showed strong form throughout the tournament, dispatching her first-round opponent from Ionia with precision. In the semifinals, she took on a seasoned player from EGR. Despite the challenge, Avah demonstrated resilience and strategic play, representing GRC with heart and hustle on the court.

3 Singles – Kaitlyn Schmitt – Regional Champion
Kaitlyn entered as the #1 seed and played like it from start to finish. She advanced efficiently through the draw and was the first to book her place in the finals. While her opponent endured a marathon 3-set match, Kaitlyn stayed physically and mentally prepared. Her readiness paid off as she delivered a focused and commanding performance in the final against Catholic Central to claim the title.

4 Singles – Anwen Amash – Runner-Up
Anwen faced a familiar rival in a rematch of the 4 Singles Conference Final. Fueled by determination and the desire for redemption, she showcased impressive variety and tenacity in her game. Anwen pushed her opponent to the limit, but East GR ultimately prevailed in a close contest. Anwen’s effort and intensity were a highlight of the day.

1 Doubles – Anneka Vermeulen / Gwyn Artz – Runner-Up
Anneka and Gwyn were a force from their first match, defeating Petoskey with confidence and chemistry. They carried that energy into their semifinal match against Forest Hills Eastern, where they edged out a tight first-set tiebreak before clinching the win. In the finals, they battled hard against top-seeded East GR but came up just short. 

2 Doubles – Anna Jacobsen / Emily Vandenberge – Semifinalists
Anna and Emily brought steady play and great teamwork to Regionals. After securing a solid opening-round win, they faced a tough EGR duo in the semifinals. They fought hard, showing strategic net play and court awareness, ultimately falling just short of the final. Their contributions were critical to the team’s overall success.

3 Doubles – Londyn Jerke / Johanna Bos – Semifinalists
Londyn and Johanna displayed great chemistry and energy on the court. They advanced with smart play and consistent serving, earning a spot in the semis against top seeded team EGR. Though they didn’t move on to the final, their teamwork and positive attitude exemplified what they can bring in the next match.

4 Doubles – Charline Dahu / Charlotte Vermeulen – Semifinalists
Charline and Charlotte proved to be an energetic duo on the court. Their opening match against Petoskey showcased sharp focus, consistent execution, and excellent teamwork, earning them a well-deserved spot in the semifinals against a strong Forest Hills Eastern team. In what turned into a demanding and high-intensity battle, the pair fought with grit and determination. Though the result didn’t fall their way, their competitive spirit and growth as a team were undeniable

A huge thank you to Adelyn, Cam, Megan, and Olivia for being our biggest fans and loudest cheerleaders under the hot sun. Their support, encouragement, and team spirit were every bit as vital as the points won on the court. This trip to States is a reflection of our entire team—on and off the court.

 

Next stop – STATES. Eagles will be headed to Ann Arbor to participate in the State tournament on 5/30-5/31. GO EAGLES!
